How To Use A Measure As A Dimension?

Note: These features are present as part of version 5.0 onwards.

A numeric field is called as a measure and non-numeric (like varchar, text, date etc) field is categorized as dimension. Whenever a measure is dragged by default the helical Insight application applies aggregate function i.e. sum on top of it. But in some cases we might want to do a groupby, for example seeing employee_id wise sales wherein we need to do a groupby on the employee_id also (rather than sum).

If you want to use the Measure value to behave like a Dimension, please follow the below steps as per shown in the images.

Step1: – Select the column having measure values. When a measure is dragged, default aggregate function is applied and it appears as green color Ex.” meeting_id” which has the “Aggregate” function as a “sum”, here. Please remove this Aggregate function using a single click on this “sum”.

Step2: – Now please apply “Group by” condition on the column and generate.

Step3: – Now you have to apply the “Discrete/Continuous” on this column same like showing in this picture. If you notice now the color is changed from Green to Blue that means now this measure column is behaving like a Dimension.
